Project Description
The client required complete Wi-Fi coverage of public spaces in Carnaby Village, one of the most internationally recognised shopping and restaurant areas in London.
There were several challenges from the ‘noisy’ Wi-Fi in the area arising from the high concentration of narrow mixed use buildings, each comprising small boutiques, multiple offices and residential accomodation.
Appearance of the streetscape is important to the client and . Many of the buildings are of historic interest, comprising centuries of differing styles and appearances, personified by Carnaby Street’s more recent reputation, anchored by the swinging 60’s.
The area is also poorly served by established broadband providers, contributing to the area being in the bottom 10% of the UK’s coverage for superfast broadband.
To reduce clutter, Westend WiFi used its in-house team to design and manufacture bespoke Wi-Fi brackets to complement, and visually recede the access points, into the street scene. Industry leading Wave 2 access points were wrapped and deployed by direct Ethernet, Fibre and Mesh to optimise appearance, performance and cost of installation.
Multi Gig Fibre has been installed to future proof additional capacity and deployment demands for the media savvy businesses in the area.
In addition, footfall and user metrics allows for user security and safety, whilst enabling future interactions within the area.
